Came here with a friend for brunch. It was busy so we were welcome to sit at the bar which we didn’t mind. The food here is delicious! The french toast was so savory and soft like a loaf of a cloud. The burger was precisely cooked to my liking and the cheese was just what it need.
We were visiting NY and our friends who live there chose Cafe d'Alsace. They are foodies and known the owners who have several French and Italian restaurants in Manhattan. They told us this was the old Elaine's spot. They were formally down the block. Very nice charming décor. We sat in a smaller rear dining room. Great and attentive service.
Started with one of my favorite appetizers, Grilled Mediterranean Octopus , fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, aged balsamic, and fresh basil oil, very good. My wife ordered on of her favorite's Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée ,aged Gruyère and country bread , also very good.
For mains, my wife tried the Burger D'Alsace ,brioche, aioli, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and French fries with a choice of: Cheddar, Gruyère, Roquefort, or Alsatian Munster. super burger. I opted for another one of favorites which you really see on a menu, Choucroute Garnie ,assorted sausages, artisan smoked bacon, Riesling-braised sauerkraut, juniper berries, steamed potatoes, and Dijon mustard. Great dish bursting loads of flavor.
For dessert, we opted for the Hazelnut Chocolate Tart ,fleur de sel, crème Anglaise, and caramel ice cream, very good. Also the Profiteroles with vanilla ice cream and a hot chocolate sauce, not your tradtional Profiteroles.
Great choice for a very enjoyable and memorable dinner.
Great neighborhood staple with amazing food and attentive service, the salmon tartare was absolutely delicious, the hangar steak was cooked to order however seems didn't get the best cut, to wrap it up cremè brûlée was point on.
